  • Himachal Pradesh had become the first state in the country to have “100% LPG gas coverage”. “There’s not a single home in the state now where firewood has to be burnt for cooking.

Andhra CM launches ‘Jagananna Vasthi Deevena’ scheme to provide financial assistance to students

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on 24th February launched yet another scheme named after himself, called ‘Jagananna Vasthi Deevena’, under which a financial assistance of Rs 2,300 crore would be provided to students pursuing various post- intermediate courses to meet hostel and mess expenses. The Chief Minister launched the programme in Vizianagaram district in north coastal Andhra.
  • In all 11,87,904 students pursuing ITI, polytechnic, under-graduate and post-graduate education would benefit from the scheme.
  • Benefit: ITI students would get Rs 10,000 each, polytechnic students would get Rs 15,000 and under-graduates and post-graduates Rs 20,000 each.

Losar festival celebrated in Himachal Pradesh

  • Hundreds of people from the Buddhist community gathered at different temples in the state to celebrate the Losar festival on 24th February .
  • People celebrated Losar Festival, on the first day of the lunisolar Tibetan calendar, at Dharamshala. Prayers were offered at Dorje Drak Monastery in Shimla.

  • Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad resigned and the cabinet was dissolved, plunging the Southeast Asian country into chaos less than two years after the 94-year-old leader took office in a historic election.

NABARD sanctions over Rs 400 cr to boost infrastructure in J&K

 

  • National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned an amount of 400.64 crore rupees to UT of J&K during the current financial year for giving boost to the infrastructure in the rural areas.
  • The funding is a part of the NABARD’s ‘Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) – Trench XXV’ which aims at augmenting rural infrastructure.

Abhay Kumar Singh appointed as NHPC CMD

  • State-run hydro power giant NHPC on 24th February announced appointment of Abhay Kumar Singh as the company’s Chairman & Managing Director from February 24, 2020.
  • Abhay Kumar Singh has assumed the charge of Chairman and Managing Director of the company on February 24, 2020 till the date of his superannuation i.e. August 31, 2022, or until further orders, whichever is earlier in place of Ratish Kumar who was holding additional charge of the post of Chairman & Managing Director in addition to his duties as Director (Projects), NHPC.

India to Host Commonwealth Archery and Shooting Championships in 2022

  • India will be hosting the Commonwealth Shooting and Archery Championships in January 2022. The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), in a media release on 24th February, said that medals from the two events will be counted for “ranking of competing nations” at the Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in Birmingham later that year.
  • The two events will be held in Chandigarh in January 2022 while the Birmingham Commonwealth Games are scheduled from July 27 to August 7 later that year.

ISRO to launch geo imaging satellite on March 5

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on said that GSLV-F10 will launch geo imaging satellite, GISAT-1, from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on March 5.
